Whether over a Spring, Summer or Christmas Break, there are many 1–3 week trip opportunities for college-age young adults to work with IMB teams on key strategies to advance the gospel.
Summertime is one of the most strategic and popular times of the year for young adults to spend 4–8 weeks fully embedded in the work of IMB teams.
A Hands On trip is a 1 or 2 semester-long opportunity for college age young adults who desire to serve for a longer term and/or work toward academic credit within a qualifying degree. Southern Baptists can receive partial support from the IMB to help support the cost to go.
Some young adults graduate high school or college without a desire to immediately jump into their next degree program or job. Instead, these individuals can spend a season of their lives, up to a year, joining IMB teams around the world in carrying out the Great Commission.
Many Southern Baptist churches work directly with IMB teams to design customized mission trips for the church to work within a defined church planting strategy over the period of years. IMB’s home office can help churches get connected to teams to begin a partnership for gospel impact.
GO Experience is a gateway opportunity for Southern Baptists to serve short-term alongside IMB field teams in select locations around the world. IMB will provide training, logistics coordination, hands-on ministry opportunities, and next steps to longer-term partnership between the church, IMB teams, and local partners.
Whether for individuals or teams, there are numerous trip opportunities for doctors, nurses, dentists, therapists, counselors, and other healthcare professionals to bring help and hope to those in need in a coordinated effort with IMB church planting strategies.
GO Impact provides Southern Baptist youth groups with 1–2 week opportunities to serve with IMB teams in select locations around the globe. IMB will provide group leader and participant training, logistics coordination, hands on ministry opportunities, a guided process for trip planning and preparation, and services of an IMB approved travel agent.
IMB offers a unique, fully funded, 2-year missions opportunity for singles and married couples (without children) under age 30. Journeymen are sent by their church through IMB to join an international missionary team to share the gospel, make disciples, and help plant churches.
Macedonia is for individuals who have a long-term call but no seminary training yet. While on the field, they are working on a church planting team and taking seminary classes. The IMB pays for half of the degree, while one of the Southern Baptist seminaries covers the other half. Macedonia missionaries (no age limit) receive a debt-free seminary degree, serve 3–4 years and are funded through the IMB.
The 2+2 program is another avenue through the seminaries. The first two years are spent physically at a seminary, and the last two years are spent working with a church planting team on the field. There is no scholarship for the seminary studies; however, the last two years of overseas service are IMB funded.
Team Associate is not funded through the IMB but serves on an IMB team during their term. They may use their trained profession while on the field or they may be self-funded.
Through this IMB funded pathway, an individual can serve for 2 to 3 years on missionary church planting teams. No college degree or seminary credits are required. Retirees who want to spend a few years on the field are encouraged to go through this route.
A career missionary serves as a church planter. They begin their first fouryear term as an apprentice missionary, working alongside an established church planting team. The next term they return as a church planter. A church planter’s full-time job is the core missionary task. They are fully funded, and this is a long-term pathway.
The field support role includes professionals who work in logistics, finance, or another role that directly supports church planters and other IMB personnel on the field. While they work overseas and still focus on sharing the gospel, the majority of their time is spent in their professional role. This is a fully funded IMB role.
Currently, there is a large need for people to go work with the IMB in support roles that deal with supporting third culture kids. There are three kinds of jobs available right now: consultants, occupational therapists, and teachers. Download a PDF about this job here. You can also email Doreen Baker, the Director of TCK Education at [email protected].
A missionary associate does the same work as a church planter, but there is no seminary requirement. This role is ideal for someone who has pastored or worked in ministry for many years but has no seminary degree. The requirement here is a life experience requirement. This is an IMB funded, long-term pathway.
