Yesterday, Southern Baptists lost two missionaries. According to reports I have seen, Randy and Kathy Arnett were killed in an automobile accident in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I have known, and worked with, Randy and Kathy for several years as they worked to develop theological education opportunities for African pastors.
While we all know that these deaths did not catch God off guard, for Southern Baptists this is a tremendous loss. It creates void in our ministry of making disciples of all nations. Randy and Kathy were passionate advocates for theological education in Africa. They knew that the health of Baptist churches and the different Baptist conventions depended on well trained men and women. Their passion and wisdom was always contagious and helpful. They will be missed.
We grieve for those who are hurting because of this loss — family, co-workers, national partners, and friends. We also want to ask Southern Baptists to join us in prayer for all of these. We also pray that the Lord will continue to be glorified as his mission advances and as people from every tribe, tongue, and nation worship him as their king.
