Long crooked rivers, steep sprawling mountains-lush green in the spring and summer, intense and vibrant shades of oranges, reds, yellows in the fall. Cold winters, white with ice pouring over the edges of rocky cliffs define our mountainous region. Vermont is the winter playground for the east coast of the United States. In the summer time, ski resorts transform into wilderness adventure playgrounds for those thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies looking for outdoor pleasure. Vermont is also something that the world enjoys without ever realizing it. If you’re like my family, the king of the ice cream world is Ben and Jerry’s. We live within a 15-minute drive of its factory and headquarters. If you enjoyed a pancake breakfast with a Keurig brewed cup of Green Mountain Coffee or hot apple cider then you have experienced some of our state’s finest delicacies. Finally, suppose you visited Washington DC and gazed at the soul stirring significance of its monuments. Then you have gazed at the beauty and strength of Vermont’s granite industry.
Our state is indeed tasty and gorgeous. However, our state is dark and hungry for Christ. Our state is the heart of the opiate crisis in our country. Trauma, poverty, drugs, addiction, abuse are the ways that people in my community are identified. Little do they know that in Christ they have a new identity. As our mountains are capped with white snow, so are the fields of harvest in our state.Trauma, poverty, drugs, addiction, abuse are the ways that people in my community are identified.
